According to people familiar with the matter, Sprint now has a deal with Apple to offer the iPhone 5, most likely sometime in mid-October.  Sprint, the struggling third-largest carrier has been at a disadvantage to it’s larger rivals, AT&T and Verizon, in part because it could not attract new users with an iPhone offering.  Now that they are possibly getting the iPhone, they are considering offering an unlimited data plan as a way of differentiating themselves from the other carriers and as a way to attract the data-hungry users who are now stuck with the tiered data plans offered by the rival carriers.  Sprint already offers unlimited data for Blackberries and for the HTC Evo, an Android phone.
